“Talk to them about the difference between religion and relationship.” That is what the athletic academic advisor told me. Every Tuesday night is a required class for all of the freshman athletes at Xavier. Last night I was the guest speaker and had the entire class. I brought in seven students who shared a testimony of their involvement with us on campus and encouraged this freshman class to pursue the Lord while in college. We are encouraged by their boldness in being willing to take a stand for Christ. Then, I went on to share the Gospel. I drew diagrams on the white board that I often draw in appointments with students. These help to show what it means to be in relationship with God through Jesus Christ. One of the diagrams explains Romans 6:23:
“The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
The advisor gave them the assignment to write a paper about what they heard and we look forward to reading their responses. It was fun to be there and realize how many freshmen we have already gotten to know already in these first few weeks of school.
It was such an amazing experience and we are so grateful to Jesus. As you hear this story we hope you are praising the Lord for the rapport He has given us with the coaches, advisors, and student athletes at Xavier. Thanks so much for your prayers. We feel so blessed and strengthened to know you are in the corner with us.
